.3d manga style animation
Iglu & Hartly - 'Violent and Young'
Software used: 3DS Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects
This video required the integration of manga-styled 3d animation and effects. I designing the lead character's full robotic suit, from the original concept, through to modelling, texturing rigging and animation. Many other mechanical, surgical and robotic elements needed to be designed and built from scratch for sequences throughout the entire video also - additional elements such as the gun firing mechanism, rocket launcher, bullet ejection, helicopter and surgical tools also needed to be set up, with attention to detail being key!
I created original cel-shaded materials to fit in with the anime look and combined this with a subtle luminance blur to help the 3D sit in the comp. All of the 3d animation then had to be carefully synced with hand-drawn 2D cels drawn by the traditional animators and planned appropriately for composition against 2D matte-painted backdrops. The video has been broadcast on MTV, Virgin and 4Music.
