.Subfocus - 'Rock It' music video
For this low-budget, high-energy music video promo, I produced an original concept of a transforming, evolving obelisk tower. The design went through many stages before it was settled on a tetris/tron/rubiks cube style.
The tower had to be ever-growing and forming together, so I rigged the model like a rubiks cube and worked backwards from the final formed tower so that each section fitted together and rolled outwards. I then reversed the effect. This was a complex procedure since every block had to have it's own set of controls and had to be dynamically parented/unparented to the blocks next to it, depending on which one was moving at the time.
I achieved the look by using Greeble for detail and a Cel shader (with edge outline), and a bit of glow. The light rays were added in post.
I also recreated a visual 'slitscan' (or stargate) effect, as seen at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The original process required a very time-intensive analogue camera technique which was unrealistic within budget and timescale, so I recreated the effect using 3DS Max and After Effects. Finally, I created the 'yeti/monster' 3d model which was used in sequences throughout the video and animated by other artists.
