I'm a 30 year old 3D & VFX artist, an all-round CG generalist, motion graphics artist, editor, compositor, web-designer, flash animator and chief tea maker. My work covers a large general area of design & CG, so I like to view myself effectively as a one-man 3D & Computer Graphics studio, hence 'JK Studios'. Apart from a short stint at
Escape Studios in London learning Autodesk Maya, I am entirely self-taught.
To date i've worked on music videos, VFX for TV programmes, commercials and short films, with my work appearing on the BBC, MTV, and the Virgin channel. I've worked on many diverse projects in various roles, such as lead 3d artist, visual effects supervisor, designer, concept artist and previsualisation artist. I do a bit of everything and like to get stuck in with the creative process. Recent projects include VFX for Big Barn Farm (CBeebies), 3D/Motion graphics for a Barclaycard conference and 3D Animation for Subfocus' music video 'Rock it'.
In February 2008 I was lucky enough to be nominated for an
Escape Award at London's Tate gallery, under the category 'student in visual effects', I did not win, but it was an honour to be considered and have my work viewed by judges such as film director Danny Boyle and be considered amongst the world of talented artists out there.
I'm obviously a complete techno-nerd at heart and usually found fiddling with some kind of technology, gadget or equipment if I can. I have a natural knack for the mechanical and robotic (an engineering-based background helps) but i'm beginning to look at more organic creations, designs and processes so i'm a more well-rounded artist. I love collaborating with colleagues, film-makers and directors in helping bring a vision to life - together with the creative process and production pipeline that goes with it.
