Liquid metal animation
Working with Mainframe, JumpKick created two TV spots for the airing of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, season two on the Virgin channel. James used Realflow for 3D fluid dynamics in order to simulate the liquid metal animation, a homage to the T1000 in the original Terminator film. This required many tests to get the correct modifiers and space warps for the liquid metal to act as required.
The particle systems were then converted to meshes and imported into 3ds Max, so the mercury style liquid meshes could be manipulated further and cameras could be animated, before being rendered out and composited in After Effects with render layers for reflections and depth of field.
Software Used: Realflow, 3DS Max, After Effects, Photoshop.
